CVBS and USB Thermal Camera Outputs: An Integration Checklist
By Haihan Defence ·
The output interface determines how a thermal module connects to the rest of your system. CVBS and USB serve different integration paths, and the presence of a connector does not by itself establish compatibility with every display, computer or flight platform.
CVBS: review the complete analog chain
CVBS is an analog composite video interface. A compatible analog capture device or video system can receive it, subject to the module’s video standard, signal requirements and wiring. Check the current interface documentation for the specific model before connecting power or signal lines.
Our HN-MINI640 and HN-MINI384 specifications list a 720 × 576 output resolution. Treat this as a video format, separate from the native 640 × 512 or 384 × 288 thermal detector array. The display and capture chain also affect what detail the viewer ultimately sees.
USB: confirm protocol and software support
A USB interface can be useful when connecting imaging hardware to a processing system. However, do not assume that every USB thermal module behaves as a standard webcam or supports your preferred operating system. Ask for the supported protocol, software documentation, drivers or SDK information applicable to the selected configuration.
Simultaneous outputs require model-specific confirmation
The HN-MINI640 specification explicitly lists simultaneous CVBS and USB output. The HN-MINI384 lists CVBS / USB interfaces without the same simultaneous-output statement. If your design needs both outputs at once, make that requirement explicit when requesting technical information.
Validate before designing the final assembly
- Confirm pinout, connector and video standard.
- Check supply voltage, grounding and cable routing.
- Verify receiving hardware and software compatibility.
- Evaluate latency across capture, processing, transmission and display.
- Confirm the selected module’s frame rate and operating configuration.
